Katie Taylor
32-year-old Katie Taylor is an Irish professional boxer from county Wicklow. Katie has helped to raise the profile of women’s boxing over the last few years especially in Ireland. She also played professionally in women’s football for the Irish women’s team. This Irish athlete has a large social media following which has just grown from year to year.

Katie’s Boxing Career
Her career in boxing began at a young age where she was coached by her dad Peter Taylor who was also a professional boxer. Katie’s first official fight was at the age of 15 where she won against Belfast boxer Allana Audley. Her first Gold Medal was obtained in 2005 at the European Amateur Championships in Norway.

Over the next number of years Katie went on to win numerous titles in Amateur Boxing. In 2012 Katie represented Ireland in the Olympic Games in London. She won the Gold Medal and became the first Olympic female lightweight champion.
Katie turned to professional boxing in 2016 and in 2017 she won her first professional world title. She has won all eight of her professional fights to date, four by knockouts and four by decision. Her next fight is set to be in New York on 28th April where she will face Argentines Victoria Bustos.

Katie’s Football Career

Katie played women’s football throughout her school days and at the age of 14 represented the under-17s Republic of Ireland women’s football team. In 2003 Katie scored four goals for the under-19s Republic of Ireland where she was just 15 years old. She went on to play in tournaments such as UEFA Women’s Championship and FIFA Women’s World Cup. Her final international appearance was at a qualifier for the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup which was held in 2009.

Katie has grown quite a large social media following over the years. Her Instagram account has over 100k followers while her Facebook has an impressive 150k followers. Someone I am sure needs no introduction is 38-year-old former Rugby player Brian O’Driscoll. Dubliner Brian captained the Irish Rugby Team for eight years and the Leinster Team for three years. He has a huge social media following his Twitter alone has over 940k followers while his Instagram has 209k.

Brian was selected for the senior squad in 1999 and became captain of the Irish Rugby Team in 2002 at the age of 23. In 2003 he went on to lead the Irish team to second place in the Six Nations Championship. The following year Brian led the team to win their first crown since 1985 and proceeded to win the crown again in 2006 and 2007. In 2009 again been captained by Brian Ireland won their first Grand Slam since 1948. Brian’s last international match was in March 2014 where Ireland beat France to win the Six Nations Championship.

Brian made his debut for Leinster in 1999 and was part of the team when they won the Celtic League in 2001. In 2005 Brian was made captain of the Leinster Team and continued until 2008. His final match for Leinster was in May 2014 at the Pro 12 Grand Final where Leinster won the title.

While playing for Leinster Brian played 186 games with a total of 61 tries and 8 titles. During his time Playing for Ireland he played 133 games with a total of 46 tries and 2 titles. Brian has been nominated several times for the IRB World Player of the Year. He was the chosen player of the tournament 3 times in the RBS Six Nations Championship. This iconic player received two Honorary Doctorate’s one in 2013 the other in 2014. Irish man Conor McGregor – The Notorious

One of the most influential person in the area MMA over the last few years is Conor McGregor nicknamed The Notorious. He was training to becoConor McGregorme a plumber before pursuing his career in MMA. Conor aged 29 was born in Dublin and has a huge social media fanbase. As of October 2017, his Twitter page has over 6.5M followers, while his Instagram has some 20.7M followers.

In his youth Conor competed in boxing and won an Irish Amateur Championship. Conor made his first appearance in UFC in April 2013 after having trained in Boxing, Karate, Kickboxing as well as many other contact sports. He was the first Irish person to register a win with the UFC after winning the fight in just 67 seconds.

Conor became more noticed after he knocked out Diego Brandao on UFC Fight Night Dublin in July 2014. McGregor won 13 fights in succession from 2011 to 2015. His fight against Mendes in 2015 saw over 3000 fans head to Las Vegas for the fight. He won this fight in the second round with a knock out.

In 2017 McGregor faced Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match in Las Vegas. Clearly one of the most anticipated of the year especially for the Irish fans. It sold 6.7 million pay per views breaking the PPV record. Unfortunately Conor was defeated in the 10th round with technical knockout. To date Conor has 18 wins by knockout and 1 by submission. He has won 17 of his last 18 fights with 13 first round finishes.

November 1st 2017 will see the release of his movie which tells the story of his rise to victory. His movie will be screened in 250 cinemas across Ireland and the UK with an exclusive live interview from Conor himself.
